Photovoltaic array

Incentives

  • There is financial support available for people wishing to install PV arrays. In the UK, households are paid a 'Feedback Fee' to buy excess electricity at a flat rate per kWh.

  • This is up to 44.3p/kWh which can allow a home to earn double their usual annual

domestic electricity bill.
  Wind power

    Incentives

    • Some financial or other support to encourage its development.

    Subsidies in many jurisdictions, either to increase its attractiveness, or to compensate for subsidies received by other forms of production which have significant negative externalities.

    • In the United States, wind power receives a tax credit for each kW·h produced; at 1.9 cents per kW·h in 2006, the credit has a yearly inflationary adjustment.

    • Many American states also provide incentives, such as exemption from property tax, mandated purchases, and additional markets for "green credits".

  • Countries such as Canada and Germany also provide incentives for wind turbine construction, such as tax credits or minimum purchase prices for wind generation, with assured grid access (sometimes referred to as feed-in tariffs).

    • Biofuels

      • Derived from biomass.

      • Bioethanol: made by fermenting the sugar components of plant materials and it is made mostly from sugar. Bioethanol is widely used in the USA and in Brazil.

      • Biodiesel: made from vegetable oils, animal fats or recycled greases.

      • It is the most common biofuel in Europe.

      Fuel cell

      Fuel cell

      • Fuel cells are very useful as power sources in remote
      • locations, such as:

      • spacecraft;

      • remote weather stations;

      • large parks;

      • rural locations;

      • military applications.
